Axial internal clearance

Axial internal clearance is a technical term used in conjunction with ball or roller bearings. It refers to the overall maximum possible movement of the inner ring of the bearing parallel to the bearing axis in relation to the outer ring. This movement allows for a certain flexibility in the bearing arrangement, which is important for proper functioning and longer bearing life. In practice, this means that the inner ring can move forwards and backwards along the axis of the bearing within a limited distance without negatively affecting the performance or reliability of the bearing. This property is sometimes also referred to as end play and is a key factor in selecting the right bearing for a specific application, as it influences both the behavior of the bearing under load and its ability to accommodate temperature differences and other operational factors.
