Electrically insulated bearings

Electrically insulated bearings are special types of bearings that play a crucial role in protecting various types of machinery and motors from the harmful effects of electrical surges. These surges can occur due to electrostatic discharges or currents flowing between rotating and stationary parts of machines. These electrical currents can damage the bearing tracks and balls or rollers inside the bearing, leading to accelerated wear and shortened bearing life.

Electrically insulated bearings are designed to create an insulation barrier between the inner and outer rings of the bearing. This barrier effectively prevents the passage of electric current through the bearing, thereby protecting not only the bearing but also other parts of the machine from damage. Various materials such as ceramics or special insulation coatings are used to achieve this insulation, ensuring high resistance to electrical surges without compromising the mechanical strength or functionality of the bearing.

Due to their ability to withstand electrical surges, electrically insulated bearings are ideal for use in applications where electric currents are present or where there is a risk of electrostatic discharges, such as in electric motors, generators, or applications with frequency converters. Using these bearings results in longer equipment life, reduced maintenance needs, and better overall reliability of mechanical equipment.
